Carteret Girls JV Basketball Plays a 6-1 First Place Season

Carteret JV Girls Basketball Champions First Time In School History!!!

The Carteret Elementary Junior Varsity Girls basketball team did something that has never been accomplished in the school’s history.  The team posted a 6-1 record which resulted in them winning their division to become the first place champions.  They surprise themselves.  From the start the girls set their sights on winning, stating one day after practice that they wanted to be undefeated.  I told them “let’s just take it one game at time”.  Through commitment, dedication and hard-work, they practiced and played each game skillfully. Still no one knew how the season would unfold.

March 17th was our last game.  We were undefeated and set to play against Franklin Elementary who we had beaten earlier in the season.  The game was intense.  Each possession was filled with excitement!  As the crowd cheered their teams towards victory, my thoughts were “this is anyone’s game” and sadly one of us would lose such a hard-fought.  So as you know we did not win the last game of our season.      

We did not end our season with a perfect 7-0 record season.  We ended our season displaying the quality of our character.  Our girls never quit.  They played till the last second on the game clock.  The sounding of the buzzer ended our 6-1 season. They played their hearts out and left everything on the court.  As coaches, we could not have been more proud of our players.  Our girls played with grace and dignity; demonstrating good sportsmanship, leadership and confidence not only as winners but also in defeat.

We salute the Carteret Junior Varsity Girls Basketball team for their resolve to do better every time they stepped into the classroom and onto the court.   As this year season has come to a close, what we’ll take from it, is not some much the wins and losses, but how well they played the game.
