BOE Honors Teachers of the Year

Ten teachers are recognized for their commitment and dedication to Bloomfield schools.

The Board expressed its appreciation and gratitude for outstanding teachers from each of the Bloomfield schools with the presentation of Teacher of the Year awards at its meeting Tuesday night.

The following teachers received recognition for their success in the district:

Kristin Kohn, Berkeley

Susan Pyser, Brookdale

Theresa Della Luna, Carteret

Linda Vecchione, Demarest

Melissa Covey, Fairview

Allison Evans, Franklin

Rebecca Beutel, Oak View

Shannon Altieri, Watsessing

John Shanagher, Bloomfield Middle School

Daniel DiDomenico, Bloomfield High School

Numerous members of the Board communicated their personal thanks to the teachers for their hard work.

Nicholas Dotoli, Board attorney, said, “I would like to congratulate them all the time, every day. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with the best and the brightest.”

Board President Mary Shaughnessy also extended her congratulations to the teachers. “It is an honor and a privilege to work with you folks,” she said.

Shaughnessy mentioned that a mission of the council is to provide its teachers with the treatment and compensation they deserve as members of the district.

“Our Board is dedicated to improving the quality of life for everyone, as much as we can,” she said.

In his report, School Superintendent Jason Bing said, “I want to personally congratulate all Teachers of the Year. It is one of the most challenging positions in the world. The honor of being recognized by your peers, parents, and children is something very important. We thank you for making Bloomfield Township a better place to live.”

At a previous meeting, Linda Vecchione was named Bloomfield Teacher of the Year, and John Shanagher was named the Bloomfield nominee for the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program.
