Bloomfield Schools Celebrate "Read Across America Week"
An array of fun activities marked a week rich in reading and learning
February 27-March 2 was Read Across America Week, and Bloomfield Public schools celebrated it with great enthusiasm.
Many special guests visited the schools all week, including Mayor Raymond McCarthy, Bloomfield School Superintendant Jason Bing, Bloomfield Police Chief Christopher Goul, a DARE officer, Township Adminstrator Yoshi Manale, Fire Department personnel, school principals, board of education members and representatives from the public library.

In true Dr. Seuss style, not all the schools' visitors were human; to the children;s delight, the Bloomfield Bengal Tiger and Superintendent Bing's pet terrier, Magnum, visited the schools as well!
In addition, readers from Bloomfield High School's National Honor Society came to read to the children, as did friends and family of the teachers and students, making Bloomfield's celebration of Read Across America a full-fledged community event.

"Every day we also did 'Drop Everything And Read'," said Demarest Media Specialist Rosemary Vetrano. "I loved that part! It gave me the chance to sit and read my own books!
"It was just a fun week to emphasize what is really the most important thing we do: encourage children to be lifelong readers."
