Bloomfield Bengals Sports News & Schedule

• The Bengal athletic family mourned the loss of Herbert Mayer, father of Head Softball Coach Bob Mayer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Mayer Family.

• Over 10,000 student athletes compete in track and field in New Jersey. They all share the goal of reaching the Meet of Champions. Two Bengals have achieved this lofty status. Sophomore Tonisha Beresford will compete in the 400 meter run and Senior Steve Taste will represent Bloomfield in the High Hurdles. Both advanced from the Group IV Championships. Also competing but failing to advance was Nick Perry, Serhiy Kralka and Jeovan Santos.

• Baseball was knocked out of the State Tournament by Ridgewood but bounced back to defeat Newark East Side. Senior Jared Guglielmino joined the exclusive 100 hit club with a triple against Ridgewood.

• Tennis concluded their season in style besting West Orange. The Bengals have improved their victory total in each of the last three seasons.

• Golf finished with a League record of 10-6 after wins against Science Park, West Side and Weequahic.

Last weeks trivia- Mike Policastro is the fifth Bengal Baseball Coach to reach 100 career wins-name the other four. The previous four Bengal Baseball Mentors with over 100 wins are Bill Foley, Joe Konn, Gabe Mosso and Mike Carter. First correct answer History teacher Tom Parker.
