Patch Editor Discusses Boston Globe's Endorsement of Huntsman on CNN

Editor of New Hampshire Patch.com chats with CNN anchor about the latest surprising news in the GOP race

Patch appeared on CNN this morning to discuss the surprising endorsement of John Huntsman by The Boston Globe on Thursday.  Representing Patch was Dan Tuohy, Assistant Regional Editor of New Hampshire Patch.com.

“Patch is AOL’s platform of 850 news and information sites coast to coast,” said CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield in her interview with Tuohy. “I suppose it’s pretty remarkable that you’ve dispatched journalists all over the ground in every key state for reporting on the primaries, the results and the impact of 2012.”

“That is correct, we’ve been all over New Hampshire trying to catch up with the candidates,” responded Tuohy. “The New Hampshire primaries is a national event but all politics are local, and our editors at Patch.com are making it happen.”

“I love that you brought up that all news is local,” said Banfield.  “Were you as surprised as I was or were you expecting it?  Because you’re really into the arcane stuff when it comes to the New Hampshire primary.”

“Arcane’s a good word,” Tuohy smiled. “It’s a great get for John Huntsman . . . we’ll see if this can get him to the finish line. The finish line for John Huntsman might be second place or third place, given Mitt Romney’s wide lead here in New Hampshire.”

Other news outlets have also been buzzing this morning about the latest development, with an Associated Press article making a David and Goliath comparison to darkhorse Huntsman and frontrunner Mitt Romney.

The article noted that the Globe’s endorsement marks the second time Massachusetts' largest newspaper has snubbed Romney, its former governor, ahead of the New Hampshire primary.

For his part, Huntsman is hoping the momentum he’s gained from the endorsement and subsequent attention will bode well for him at the New Hampshire primaries this Tuesday.  At the Iowa Caucuses this week he received .06% of the vote.
