County Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Days Scheduled

Two drop-off dates scheduled at County Fleet Maintenance Facility in Cedar Grove.

Essex County has announced two free collection dates in October for residents to drop off household hazardous waste and unwanted electronic equipment.

The collection days are open to Essex County residents, who can drop off the specified items at the Essex County Fleet Maintenance Facility, located at 99 Bradford Ave. in Cedar Grove.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., household hazardous waste items can be discarded, including pesticides and herbicides, paint thinners and solvents, oil-based paint, chemistry sets, barbecue propane tanks, pool chemicals, photo developing chemicals, household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, products that contain mercury, car batteries, home fire extinguishers, aerosol spray paint and automotive fluids.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., county residents can bring computers and other unwanted electronics to the maintenance facility including computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, scanners, telecom equipment, speakers, televisions, keyboards, main frames, VCRs, stereos, DVD players, toasters, irons and cellular telephones.

The Essex County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is for Essex County residents only. Residents are not charged when they bring materials, but they must provide proof of residency at the site. Commercial businesses may not drop off materials.
