Bloomfield Woman Charged With Bank Robbery

Suspect also tied to another bank robbery in Bloomfield, police say.

 

A Bloomfield woman has been arrested on charges of robbing a branch of Sovereign Bank on Belleville Avenue, according to the Bloomfield Police Department.

Michelle Collier, 28, has also been linked to a on Bloomfield Avenue in Bloomfield on August 3, police said.

In the Belleville Avenue robbery, a woman entered the bank wearing a headscarf on Aug. 10 and handed a note to the teller. The note said the woman was armed with a gun and also demanded money, according to Bloomfield police.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money and the woman, later identified as Collier, allegedly left the bank on foot, heading west on Belleville Avenue.

Police officers responded and were told by police communications that a local courier was following the woman and was somewhere in the area of Hazelwood Road. They arrested the woman and she was positively identified by bank employee’s as the robbery suspect, police said.

Police officers said they also gathered evidence from the scene and from the location of the arrest, but did not recover a weapon. Bail for Collier was set at $500,000.00.
