January 18, 2012 @ 2pm:  Basics of Banking 
By taking the "Bank On It" course, you are making an important first step to building a better financial future for yourself and your family.

It all starts with understanding the basics of personal finances. Recognize the major types of insured financial institutions  Recognize basic banking terms  Recognize differences between banks and check-cashing services  Identify bank employees and their jobs,  Identify the types of accounts,  Describe banking services.

January 21, 10am:  Saving for College: Understanding Your Options"  
The seminar will provide information to help ensure your son or daughter has the financial resources to attend the college of his or her choice.  It is open to all parents, grandparents and expectant parents.  Early planning is an important step you can take to ease the burden of meeting college costs.  However, even if your child is approaching high school graduation, there are still some steps you can take to prepare for college.

January 25, 2012 at 2pm: Chinese Culture!    
The Chinese New Year celebrates the start of the Year of the Dragon and it's a good time to revisit traditional Chinese culture, it's myths and legends. For 5,000 years, Chinese culture was heralded as a divine gift. Its values of benevolence, honor, etiquette, wisdom, and sincerity have inspired countless artists and poets.

The presentation will focus on Chinese history and a brief overview of key dynasties, on classic stories and fascinating characters from Chinese literature, and on classical Chinese dance (Shen Yun) and Chinese musical instruments.  It will explain how Shen Yun uses dance to express Chinese civilization and its values. 

January 25, 2012 at 6:30pm:"Maximizing Your Social Security Benefits"  
Confused about social security? Learn how to maximize your social security retirement benefits. When you elect Social Security may be the most important decision of your retirement. This free educational event may be the most important financial planning workshop you ever will attend.

You will learn: Special claiming strategies that can increase your family's benefits; The best time you should apply for Social Security; How to make the right Social Security election decision; and why married couples miss out on tons of Social Security benefits

January 27, 2012 at 2pm: "Keeping it  Safe: Identity Protection Education"     
This seminar will give you general information on laws that protect consumers.  Further information can be found by using the resources listed in your Take-Home Guide, that will be provided.   By the end of the course, you will be familiar with your rights as a banking consumer. You will know:  The laws that protect your rights as a banking consumer, Ways to avoid scams, Ways to protect your identity, and How to resolve complaints regarding your bank accounts.

January 31, 2012 at 2pm:  "Business Banking 101"       
The program will be presented by Melissa Jaipal,  the local branch manager at Sovereign Bank in Bloomfield NJ.  She has been with bank for five months, and has over six years experience in banking.  She has a strong belief in community service as well as educating people about how to manage finances.  The Bloomfield Public Library would like to thank Melissa for volunteering to present this important information to the Bloomfield community.  Please join us.
