Teen Dating Abuse Workshop at BMS Tonight

The 7:00 pm workshop will be held at Bloomfield Middle School, as part of a special BOE meeting presentation.

 

A workshop on teen dating abuse will be held tonight at 7:00 pm at Bloomfield Middle School, as part of a special BOE meeting presentation.

The workshop, hosted by Linda and Rudy Slucker NCJW Center for Women, will address issues such as how parents can recognize signs of dating abuse, how parents and children can communicate effectively and what families can do to help teens avoid verbally or physically abusive relationships.

Parents of adolescents are encouraged to attend this workshop.  According to statistics:

One in three adolescents who has been in a dating relationship has experienced verbal or physical abuse from a dating partner, yet in 80% of the cases, the parents didn’t know about it

Nearly 80% of girls who have been physically abused continue to date their abusive partner.

WARNING SIGNS THAT YOUR TEEN MAY BE IN AN ABUSIVE DATING SITUATION

Have you noticed him/her:

  • Acting jealous and possessive?
  • Avoiding family and friends?
  • Exhibiting controlling behavior or being controlled
  • Blaming someone else for violent behavior within the relationship
  • Calling, emailing or texting excessively to monitor one another's actions or whereabouts

If you are a parent who is concerned your child may be in an abusive relationship, make sure you attend tonight’s presentation.
