Train Traveler Sexually Assaulted, Lautenberg Dead at 89 Top State News

Five-term U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, the last World War II veteran in the senate, died Monday morning. He was 89.  New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa, a Republican, was appointed Thursday to fill his senate seat until a special election can be held in October. Mahwah Police are investigating the alleged robbery and sexual assault of a 20-year-old Fair Lawn man whom police said drunkenly encountered two teens on a train from New York City last week who forced him to perform sexual acts on them. The renowned Washington Street restaurant and epicenter of Hudson County's indie rock scene that was recently named the No. 3 rock club in the United States by Rolling Stone will close at the end of July. Early news reports named Hoboken resident Ryan Lanza, a 24-year-old Quinnipiac University graduate, as the shooter who had massacred 20 school children in a sleepy Connecticut town.
