Republican and Democratic Candidates File for 2013 Bloomfield Election

Republicans Russell Mollica and Richard Galioto vying to run for Mayor as GOP candidates; Township Councilman-At-Large Michael Venezia is running for Mayor.

Bloomfield: meet your 2013 candidates.  With the April 1 deadline to file for the June primary now past, two Republicans and one Democrat have filed to seek their party's nomination along with three Republican candidates for Council and six Democratic candidates. Republicans Russell Mollica and Richard Galioto, Sr. are seeking to be nominated to run as Mayor. Mollica owns a small-business in Bloomfield and unsuccessfully challenged Ronald Rice in the 2011 election for New Jersey Senate District 28. He has acted as a taxpayer advocate and has voiced strong opposition to Bloomfield redevelopment projects.  Richard J. Bloomfield Democrats Kick Off Campaign Season

On Friday Night, Bloomfield Democrats presented their slate of 2013 hopefuls led by Mayoral Candidate Michael Venezia.

Democrats from throughout Essex County packed into the banquet room of the Essex Manor on Friday, March 15, for the Bloomfield Democratic Team Kick-Off.  Bloomfield Township Councilman-At-Large Michael Venezia tops the bill with his bid for Mayor. Joining him on the ticket are Wartyna "Nina" Davis, Joe Lopez and Carlos Pomares. Lopez, an Essex County employee is known to Bloomfield residets for his recent stint as the president of Bloomfield's Board of Education. Pomares, the Executive Director of the non profit Cuban Arts Fund, ran for the Democratic nomination for the at-large council seat in 2010 eventually won by Venezia. Bloomfield Nets 10 Workers for Post-Sandy Cleanup

Jobs created through federal Hurricane Sandy recovery grant

Nine towns in Essex County are getting a helping hand in post-Sandy recovery efforts thanks to a nearly $421,000 federal grant that will create 105 temporary jobs. The money - awarded to Bloomfield, Belleville, Caldwell, Fairfield, Irvington, Livingston, Nutley, East Orange, Orange, the East Orange Water Commission and the Essex County government - is part of $15.6 million awarded to New Jersey by the Federal Hurricane Sandy Disaster National Emergency Grant. It will be used to fund 1,300 jobs in 16 counties across the state. "The intent of the funding is to allow government agencies to hire unemployed people to help the state, counties and towns in their clean-up efforts,” said Harold J.
