Now he will lose his job, pension and respect. not to mention the trauma his family must endure. I know George. He is not a piece of garbage, he's not a hurtful person. Apparently he is someone who has exercised poor judgment …   more ›

Quovella M. Spruill -- or “Q,” as she’s known around the Leroy Smith Public Safety Building in Newark -- on Friday officially became the first African-American woman to be named deputy chief of the county law enforcement agency, where she will help oversee a staff of 120 investigators and other personnel. During a swearing-in ceremony Friday, colleagues praised Spruill, who had served as acting deputy since May, for her tremendous work ethic and mastery of the details of law …

Police are searching for two men believed to have shot a 16-year-old Bloomfield boy

Police are searching for two men believed to have shot a teenager on Hoover Avenue in Bloomfield last weekend. The 16-year-old boy, of Bloomfield, was shot in the abdomen shortly after midnight Saturday on Hoover Avenue near Pilgrim Court, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, Bloomfield Police Department spokesperson. The teen told police officers he had been walking home from a local fast-food restaurant when he was approached by two men emerging from the dead end of Pilgrim Court. Christina Lembo Memorialized in Tearful Candlelight Vigil

Bloomfield High School junior and soccer star was killed late Saturday night in a car crash on Broughton Avenue

The corner of Broughton Avenue and Walter Street fell completely silent Sunday night, as hundreds of Bloomfield High School students paid tribute to one of their own in an awesome display of Bengal pride. Holding candles and bouquets of flowers, some teens loudly sobbed while others stood quietly in prayer at the scene of a horrific car accident that claimed the life of 16-year-old Christina Lembo, a well-liked soccer star and Bloomfield High School student best remembered for her smile. "She was a nice girl, always laughing," said Monika Pollick, whose 15-year-old daughter, Leah, played soccer with Lembo for years. Nearly 24 hours earlier, Lembo was killed when the Honda Civic she was in the backseat of collided with a Chevrolet Camaro …

Judge to Review Files in 'Patrick the Pit Bull' Case

Former owner of famous dog seeking to avoid jail time on animal-cruelty charges

The woman acccused in an animal cruelty case that captured national attention last year appeared in Essex County Superior Court Monday to ask a judge to review documents her attorney claims will help in her defense. Kisha Curtis and her lawyer, Andrew Rojas, asked Judge Joseph Cassini III to examine files from the state Department of Children and Families related to Curtis. The 28-year-old has three children. Because the documents are sealed to the public, it is unclear exactly how they will aid in the defense of Curtis, who is charged with tossing a pit bull down the trash chute of a Newark high-rise in March 2011. Rojas, however, said the files  were relevant to Curtis's case. “We are not looking for material on the children. We’re …
