Peanut Butter Plant Linked to Salmonella Shut Down

The plant supplies peanut butter products to stores like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Safeway and others.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico, whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The various types of Sunland peanut butter products – sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Trader Joe's, Safeway and Whole Foods – had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded. The FDA action announced Monday is a mandatory order. The company's peanut butter products have been "linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney that has sickened 41 people in 20 states," the FDA said. Trader Joe's Coming to Clifton

Clifton store coming in November, will be open seven days a week

Bloomfield residents that are fans of Trader Joe's can rejoice: The beloved grocery store is opening one town over in Clifton. According to its website, Trader Joe's will unveil a new location at 259 Allwood Rd. in Clifton Friday, Nov. 16. The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week and will not sell alcohol. (So much for two-buck chuck!) Just a little more than three miles away from Bloomfield, the new Clifton location is far more convenient than other locations in Millburn (10.5 miles away), Wayne (13.7 miles) and Florham Park (a whopping 22.5 miles). Our neighbors in West Essex have been rooting for a Trader Joe's to open up in this neck of the woods for some time, even creating a Facebook page, We Want-Need a Trader …
