Bloomfield's Councilwoman-at-Large Peggy O'Boyle to Help Lead Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade

Parade to Celebrate Its 78th Year on March 15

St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Inc., organizers of the oldest St. Patrick’s Day parade in New Jersey, announced that Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Esq. as its Grand Marshal and Eileen P. Gilleece, Detective Sergeant First Class with the New Jersey State Police, as Deputy Grand Marshal in its 78th Year.  In addition, Bloomfield Councilwoman-at-Large Peggy O'Boyle, a member of the Newark Parade Committee, will help lead the festivities. The parade will be held on Friday afternoon, March 15 with grandstand ceremonies beginning at 12 p.m. and the official parade kick-off at 1 pm. The parade starts on Mulberry Street at the Prudential Center, making its way past the Gateway Complex, to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, passing Military Park…

A Strange Story from Ireland

At least no one stole the heart of Saint Patrick

  In one of the more bizarre news stories in recent memory, the heart of a 900-year-old saint was recently stolen from Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin.   “The 900-year-old heart of St. Laurence O'Toole was taken from the iron cage where it is normally kept in Christ Church Cathedral,” CNN reported earlier this month. “The bars were wrenched open, allowing access to the heart-shaped wooden box that held the relic bolted to a wall in Saint Lauds Chapel.” Officials at Christ Church Cathedral called the theft "truly awful and strange" and said people were "shocked and saddened." What's your favorite place to go in town?

  In just less than a week it will be St. Patrick's Day! Besides celebrating the patron saint of Ireland, we don our green to celebrate good friends, good food, and good drink. There are lots of great places to make St. Patrick's Day special in Bloomfield. Where will you go for corned beef and cabbage or an ice-cold beer?  Do you prefer a homey Irish pub?  A big party atmosphere with live music?  A cozy spot filled with close friends?
