Brandon Holt died after being shot in the head Monday night
A 6-year-old Toms River boy died Tuesday, a day after he was shot in the head by a 4 year old with a rifle. "It's a tragic thing that happened," said Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher Tuesday. "It's a terrible tragedy." Holt was in the yard of a McCormick Drive home when the 4 year old brought the .22 caliber rifle out from inside the house, Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said. Mastronardy said the matter is under investigation, and any criminal action against the owner of the gun would have to be reviewed by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School has begun a renewed conversation about how to best protect schools.

In the aftermath of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 school children and six adults dead, administrators, teachers, parents and students are struggling with how best to address school safety. Validate children's feelings and talk about safety.
Friday's tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn., has left many parents asking how to handle discussing events like this with children. Kristina Silvestry, MA, Counselor and Director of Berkeley Heights, NJ-based Peace of Mind Counseling and Wellness Center, said it's very important that first and foremost children feel safe. "You never want them to feel that they're wrong for feeling what they're feeling," she said. "You have to give them time and let them process it. Let them ask questions and parents can pull upon things like their faith or other …

He played on the Ridgefield Tigers football team in 2006 as a wide receiver and defensive back and was accomplished academically, achieving the RHS Honor Roll in 2005, 2006 and 2007. After his RHS graduation, Schiavetti enrolled as a student in the Villanova School of Business, where he made dean’s list in 2010.
