Man believed to be involved in robberies in Belleville and Bloomfield.
The Essex County Sheriff's Office posted a $5,000 cash reward on Thursday for information leading to the arrest of two men wanted in connection with eleven armed robberies of convenience stores, liquor stores and gas stations in towns in three North Jersey counties since February 1, said Sheriff Armando Fontoura. One of the men has been identified as having robbed and shot the owner of MS&K Confectionery in Maplewood on April 1, said Fontoura. The man was also recently identified as allegedly robbing a Belleville convenience store on April 14 and being part of a two-man armed robbery at a liquor store in Linden on April 17. Mugger escaped in four-door black vehicle, police said.
Bloomfield police said that two people were robbed while walking on First Avenue. Police said that at approximately 10:15 p.m. April 25, a 5-foot-7-inch black male, in a black jacket and black jeans, ran up behind them and mugged them. Police said the thief took a Samsung galaxy phone, $100 cash and a small purse from the first victim and a cell phone and a bankcard from the second pedestrian. After the mugging, the man fled in a waiting four-door black vehicle, police said. Two masked men made off with cigarettes and cash, police say.
Bloomfield police say two men robbed a Broad Street convenience store at gunpoint last week. According to a Bloomfield police report, on March 29, two men armed with handguns robbed the store, located on the 300 block of Broad Street at approximately 9:25 p.m. Police say the men held the clerk at bay as they took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing, apparently on foot. The first alleged robber was described as a black male with a large build wearing a facemask, green hooded sweatshirt, gloves and a baseball cap. Montclair Police released surveillance footage of a man robbing a local convenience store last month. A white man in his 20s walked into the 7-Eleven, at 15 Bloomfield Ave., near the Glen Ridge border, on Feb. 16 around 6:30 a.m., according to police. The man, who was wearing a black trench coat and had his face covered with sunglasses, browsed around the store but did not pick up anything. The man then approached the cashier and requested about $120 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets. When the clerk asked for payment, the man raised his shirt to expose what is believed to be the butt of a large knife, according to police. Police say man was repeatedly punched and kicked during night time attack on Belleville Avenue.
A 44-year-old Bloomfield man was reportedly jumped and robbed by four men at approximately 9:35 p.m. Friday near the apartment complex at 249 Belleville Ave. The victim described all of his attackers as black males between ages 20 and 25, approximately 5’8”- 5’9” tall and ranging in weight from 160 and 170 lbs. The four men approached the victim on Belleville Avenue and punched and kicked him before throwing him to the ground, police sid. Police say two men unsuccessfully attempted to rob a Montgomery street store last weekend. According to a police report, on Saturday, March 2, two men entered a store on the 100 block of Montgomery St. intending to rob the business. The owner reportedly confronted the first man, prompting the second man to pull his shirt over his own face. Police say the first man to enter pulled out a black handgun—which later turned out to be fake—and told the victim, "give me the money." While police say the victim didn't yet know the gun was fake, he was evidently undaunted by the man's demands. Bloomfield police say that two armed men robbed a Broad Street convenience store earlier this month, making off with cash and cigarettes. According to a police report, on Wednesday, Feb. 13, two black males entered a convenience store on Broad St. with what police describe as obvious intentions of committing a robbery. A & A Deli, at 133 Montgomery St., was robbed shortly before closing time at 8:05 p.m. on Sunday.
A local market was robbed at gunpoint by two men during the Super Bowl on Sunday evening, according to Bloomfield Police. Two men wearing masks walked into the A & A Deli, at 133 Montgomery St., shortly before closing time at 8:05 p.m., according to police. One of the men brandished a handgun and demanded the clerk hand over the money in the register. The clerk hit the panic button which called Bloomfield Police to store, located at the corner of Berkeley Avenue and Montgomery Street. The two men were able to take $57 from the market’s register and flee from the store on foot before police could arrive. Surveillance video captured the robbery. The investigation is ongoing as police review the surveillance footage.

Three men reportedly robbed the Exxon and 7-Eleven gas stations, at 491 and 122 Bloomfield Avenue, respectively, on Friday.
Two Bloomfield Avenue gas stations were held up at gunpoint within minutes of each other before daylight Friday morning, according to Bloomfield Police. The Exxon gas station, at 491 Bloomfield Ave., was robbed at by three men at approximately 5:37 a.m. Friday. The gas station attendant told police a Dodge minivan drove up to the station and a man jumped out of the van with a mask covering his face. The masked man was armed with a handgun and he demanded the attendant’s money. “Don’t move, give me your money,” the man reportedly said to the attendant, according to police. Three 14-year-olds were robbed on Park Street near Broad Street on Saturday.
A good Samaritan was hit in the face with a gun while trying to interrupt a robbery of three young men at gunpoint, according to the Bloomfield Police Department. Three 14-year-olds were walking on Park Street near the intersection with Broad Street at 7:13 p.m. on Saturday when they were approached by two men, one of which was wearing a ski mask and brandishing a black handgun. The men pointed the gun at the young men and said, “Give me what you got,” according to reports. While the three teenagers were being robbed, two other men were passing by and attempted to stop the robbery.
