Christie: I Did Not Embrace Obama

'I'm a guy who tells the truth all the time and if the President of the United States did a good job, I’m going to say he did a good job.'

A day after President Barack Obama earned reelection, Governor Chris Christie dismissed critics who have accused him of bolstering the president during Obama's post-Sandy visit to New Jersey. “I wouldn't call what I did an embrace of Barack Obama," Christie said. "I'm a guy who tells the truth all the time and if the President of the United States did a good job, I’m going to say he did a good job." Speaking to reporters as Winter Storm Athena prepared to batter the already storm-shocked state, Christie was also quick to dismiss speculation of a 2016 presidential run, saying that the life and death issues inherent with back-to-back storms have made politics a minor focus for now. “I've got a job to do in New Jersey. My future, whatever it …

Christie Blasts Romney Staffers As 'Know-Nothing, Disgruntled'

Gov. Christie said Mitt Romney's staff had spread a false rumor that he had turned down an opportunity to campaign for the presidential candidate.

Gov. Christie dismissed rumors that he had turned down an opportunity to campaign for presidential Mitt Romney in Pennsylvania, saying the story had been spread by "know-nothing, disgruntled Romney staffers who don't like that I said nice things about the President of the United States." Christie was in Westwood Tuesday to speak about New Jersey's recovery from Hurricane Sandy. The governor had previously praised President Barack Obama for the support the federal government had given to the state after the storm devasted coastal areas. Christie explained that he had spoken with Romney before Sandy hit the state last week. Romney had asked him to join him at an event, but Christie told Romney that he would not be able to help if Sandy …

Springsteen Pens Obama Support Message Ahead Of Iowa Performance, Ohio Rally

He says Obama forges the best path to an inclusive and fair America.

NORTH JERSEY -- Bruce Springsteen published a staunch defense of the record and promise of President Obama on Wednesday, a day ahead of a campaign rally in the battleground state of Ohio and a performance at Iowa State University. Springsteen, who is set to appear at the Ohio rally with former President Clinton, writes that Obama showed "grit, determination and focus" as he faced "extraordinary" opposition and "economic chaos" left behind by the Bush Administration. "Domestically, that record includes working to increase and expand employment for all, protecting our all important social safety net, passing guaranteed health care for most of our citizens, with important new protections for all of the insured, rescuing the auto industry and …

Who Won The Presidential Debate, Round 2?

Sparks flew on Long Island Tuesday night. Vote in our poll.

The second Presidential debate Tuesday night lively and often confrontational exchanges between President Obama and Mitt Romney, as the two sparred over jobs, energy policy and taxes. In front of an audience of about 80 at Hofstra University in Nassau County, Obama questioned Romney's truthfulness and pressed him on the details of his economic plan, which the president called "sketchy." Romney said that Obama's policies have forced jobs overseas and put a squeeze on middle class families. Romney has seen a bump in poll numbers since the two faced off two weeks ago. Obama's performance in their first debate was widely panned as lackluster. Tell us who you think performed better in Tuesday's debate.

Jill Stein, Green Party Candidate, Arrested At Debate Site [Video]

Video by Hofstra's student-run LI Report shows the Green Party candidate calling the event a 'mockery of democracy.'

While President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney will get the red carpets rolled out for them at Hofstra University Tuesday night, Green Party candidate Jill Stein got a far chillier reception when she and her running mate were arrested near the debate site. A video posted by LI Report, a Hofstra student news website, shows Stein being blocked by police from entering the debate. On camera, Stein called the debate itself a "mockery of Democracy." According to the article, Stein and her running mate, Cheri Honkala, were blocked from entering because they did not have credentials. Security at Hofstra has been even tighter than it was for the 2008 debate, given a sitting president will be on campus. In the video, officers warn Stein and…

Christie Campaigns For Romney In Ohio

'Un-employ' Obama! Shouted one of the estimated 12,000 people who turned out to either support or protest the Republican presidential candidate.

Thousands of Ohioans turned out to see Gov. Chris Christie stump Tuesday for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Cuyahoga Falls. Ohio has become a revolving door for presidential candidates because it is traditionally considered a swing state. President Obama campaigned at Ohio State University Tuesday just hours before Romney's evening stop in Cuyahoga Falls. WATCH: Crowd Roars Over Romney's 5-Point Plan "Ohio, are you ready to get the job done?" asked New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie who joined Romney on Tuesday. More Americans like Romney this week, but he still isn't as popular as Obama nationally, according to a ABC/Washington Post poll. Of those polled, 47 percent said they liked Romney but 55 percent liked Obama -- …

Obama Campaign Targeting Christie in NJ Survey

The New Jersey arm of the president's campaign has set up a website asking residents for feedback on Gov. Chris Christie.

An email circulated to New Jersey supporters of President Barack Obama is asking residents to "tell the truth" about Gov. Chris Christie, in anticipation of presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's possible VP nod to the New Jersey governor. The email, sent Wednesday morning by Jackie Cornell-Bechelli, New Jersey State Director of Obama for America, points its recipients to a website, where supporters can fill out a form detailing "what you think people need to know about Chris Christie." Christie has repeatedly waved off rumors that he would accept a vice-presidential nomination from Romney. On July 16 in Manasquan, Christie said he does not expect to be Romney's pick for vice president. "Hopefully (Romney) picks a smart, well-qualified person …

Impeach Obama? Visiting Activists Compare Obama To Hitler

Set up outside a Montclair post office, the so-called LaRouche Political Action Committee was drawing a lot of attention on Wednesday

It rarely gets more controversial than this. Today, outside the U.S. Post Office on Valley Road in Upper Montclair , a table has been set up by members of the LaRouche Political Action Committee asking passers-by to assist them in getting President Obama impeached. Decorating the table is a photo of Obama with a drawn-on Hitler-like mustache. Needless to say, people going in and out of the post office—or the Starbucks next door—were not very happy. "This is outrageous ... and outside the post office?!  You're all crazy!" one person shouted. But the two young people manning the table—who said they were from Bergen County—spoke thoughtfully about their review of the last three years of the Obama administration's policies, starting with the…

Obama Moves to Address High Gas Prices

President is pressing Congress to tighten regulations governing oil speculators.

President Barack Obama wants Congress to give oil-market regulators more power to keep speculators from manipulating oil prices, which can lead to higher costs at the pump, the Huffington Post reports.  Obama is asking legislators to strengthen federal supervision of oil markets, increase penalties for market manipulation and empower regulators to increase the amount of money energy traders are required to put behind their transactions, the Huffington Post reports.  "We can't afford a situation where some speculators can reap millions while millions of American families get the short end of the stick," Obama said Tuesday at the White House. AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in New Jersey on Friday …
