A new customer satisfaction survey of New Jersey Transit customer’s post-Superstorm Sandy has overwhelmingly endorsed the job the agency has been doing, according to an announcement by the Christie administration and the agency Tuesday. In the online survey conducted Feb. 4 through February 25, or during the third quarter of the agency’s fiscal year, nearly four in five customers, or nearly 14,000 participants on the agency's website (njtransit.com) said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative. NJ TRANSIT is now offering free parking on weekends for Newark Light Rail customers at Grove Street Station in Bloomfield. In February, NJ TRANSIT implemented free Saturday/Sunday parking at five Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stations as part of a one-year pilot program aimed at encouraging use of the light railsystem and increasing weekend ridership. A NJ Transit train collided with a tractor-trailer in Little Falls Wednesday morning and injured 10 people, two of them seriously.

A NJ Transit passenger train slammed into a tractor-trailer in Little Falls, Wednesday morning, injuring several people, backing up traffic on Pompton Avenue and cancelling trains along the Montclair-Boonton line. PSE&G crews were originally supposed to disable power in Little Falls around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to work on damaged power lines, but were unable to do so until the damaged tractor-trailer was removed, PSE&G spokesperson Kristine Snodgrass told Patch at 4 p.m. Wednesday. As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. The Bloomfield Shuttle Buses resumed their regular morning schedule Tuesday in order to accommodate commuters affected by the suspension of New Jersey Transit's Montclair-Boonton line. Both the north and south end shuttles will be picking up residents and taking them to the Bloomfield train station and the Grove Street Light Rail Station, upon request. NJ Transit has implemented a free shuttle bus service from the Bloomfield station to the ferry in Weehawken until train lines to New York City are restored. In the evening, the north and south end shuttles will be at the Bloomfield station only to return commuters back to their regular evening drop-off locations.
