Man Shot Sunday Was Athlete, Academic

A 21-year-old Connecticut man and Villanova student was shot multiple times on William Street Sunday evening.

  Brian Schiavetti, 21, was shot and killed in what police called a “targeted” incident this past Sunday in Montclair, an area not known for violent crime. Schiavetti graduated from Ridgefield High School (RHS) in 2009 after what appears to be a four-year attendance. He played on the Ridgefield Tigers football team in 2006 as a wide receiver and defensive back and was accomplished academically, achieving the RHS Honor Roll in 2005, 2006 and 2007. After his RHS graduation, Schiavetti enrolled as a student in the Villanova School of Business, where he made dean’s list in 2010. UPDATED: Joseph Rossi, Bloomfield Business Owner, Shot Dead

Police investigate homicide at Phoenix Amusements on Floyd Avenue

  Joseph G. Rossi, a longtime Bloomfield business owner and former Bloomfield resident was shot dead in his Floyd Avenue arcade and video store at 1:45 pm on Friday afternoon, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. Rossi, 58, owned Phoenix Amusements at 105 Floyd Avenue, next door to Pete's Place convenience store.  He was a resident of Verona. Late Friday afternoon, the intersection of Floyd Avenue and LaFrance was partitioned off with police yellow tape.  Police officers blocked the premises the pinball and electronic game store, while patrol cars and numerous vehicles from the Medical Examiner's office  and the Essex County Prosecutor's office surrounded the area.
