A daytrip destination with special events
Time to get out of the house? Ready for a new and nearby adventure? The Newark Museum is hosting Holiday Fun Days on Dec. 28, 29 and 30. The museum will be open from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. each day. Township holds annual tree-lighting ceremony with special visit from Santa
Bloomfield decked the halls Monday night at its tree-lighting ceremony, the annual event that draws hundreds to town hall for hot cocoa and caroling. Children got a special visit from Santa, who traveled in style from Bloomfield Avenue via horse and buggy, while the Bloomfield High School choir and Boys, Girls and Cub Scouts kept the mood festive with Christmas carols. Some of the most distinctive homes in Essex Fells will open their doors to the public in December to help support the borough’s elementary school. The Essex Fells PTA and the Essex Fells Foundation for Educational Excellence will stage their second Holiday Home Tour & Boutique on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Homes will be decked out for the holidays with special touches added by local designers, artists and florists. The tour will feature a variety of houses from grand to cozy, Tudor to colonial, new to old, displaying an array of decorating styles. While the “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner usually consists of turkey and trimmings, we have all established different traditions through the years. That said: Do you bake or cook anything that strays from conventional Turkey Day cuisine? Perhaps it is a dessert, a side dish – or maybe even the main course.
