Bloomfield Gas Station Accused of Price Gouging

Delta station at 141 Bloomfield Ave., as well as six other gas stations and one hotel, hit with civil lawsuit filed by state Division of Consumer Affairs

A Bloomfield gas station has been hit with a civil lawsuit accusing it of price gouging in wake of Hurricane Sandy. Vinny Fuel Corporation, also known as the Delta gas station at 141 Bloomfield Ave., allegedly raised prices 25 percent from $3.19 to $3.99 per gallon during the state of emergency declared Oct. 27. New Jersey's Division of Consumer Affairs received six consumer complaints about the company. Six other gas stations, including two in Newark, and one hotel are also named in the suit, filed by the Division of Law on behalf of the state Division of Consumer Affairs. "We have received no indication that these defendants faced costs that would have made these excessive price increases necessary or justifiable," said Attorney General …

Gas Shortage Leads to Long Lines in Bloomfield

Traffic along Bloomfield Avenue backs up as stations receive rare fuel deliveries

For the past two days, traffic along Bloomfield Avenue – and elsewhere in town – has come to a grinding halt at the mere sight of a gas tanker, unleashing a mob of drivers and flurry of red gas cans. Meanwhile, a swarm of people with gas cans wrapped up Royalton Place to the gas station, as a gas tanker barrelled down Ampere Parkway, several cars trailing behind it. That tanker was said to have …

Sandy Gas Shortage Causing Panic, Long Lines

From Long Valley to Bloomfield, fuel is scarce and tempers are high in northern New Jersey.

Two days after Sandy severed power to most of North Jersey, dwindling fuel supplies set off a stampede to service stations Wednesday, as empty tank-toting thousands waited hours to pay at the pump. Tensions often ran high as gasoline for cars and generators became more scarce by the second. Lines of people holding red canisters stretched into the dozens, while scores of cars backed up onto highways. "Avoid Morristown. Gas stations are out of fuel, please make other arrangements,” an alert from Morristown Police read Wednesday afternoon. "Everyone's panicking because all their gas tanks are on 'E,'" said one officer as he restricted access to Morristown’s Abbett Avenue in one direction because the mad rush to Dean's Tire Service there had …
