District Hires Interim Business Administrator

James Verbist will begin his tenure next week.

  The Bloomfield school district will have a new business administrator starting next week. The Bloomfield Board of Education voted this week to approve the appointment of James Verbist, of Paramus, as interim business administrator. Verbist will begin his term on Monday.  Verbist will take over for Michael Derderia, who served about 11 years in the district.  The interim position will bring with it a daily rate of $625.  Superintendent Jason Bing was unable to be reached for comment.

During the January 22nd BOE meeting the auditor gave his assessment of the recent state audit. Much of the discussion revolved around the actions of the former business administrator Derderian. While nothing nefarious, it seems in some cases he did not follow standard accounting practices. I don't know for sure, but I imagine that is the reason we now have a new BA. Linda Strutz Wins Bloomfield District Teacher of the Year

The elementary school teacher will now move on to the state's Teacher of the Year competition.

  A kindergarten teacher was named Bloomfield school district’s teacher of the year, and will now move on to the statewide Teacher of the Year competition.   Linda Strutz was selected as the district teacher of the year among hundreds of other teachers in Bloomfield's 11 schools. Strutz is a 14-year veteran at Berkeley Elementary School where she teaches kindergarten.  “It’s kind of exciting,” said Strutz. “Teachers are not the type of people that like to boast or brag about themselves, so it’s difficult ... and awkward for me because I am usually doing that for the children I work with.”  Strutz said that former students have been stopping by to congratulate her and she has received emails from teachers and parents.  “I’m a very positive …
