Man trying to steal car reportedly fled scene after confrontation.
An attempted carjacking on Bloomfield Avenue was thwarted by the car's owner and a bystander who stepped in, police said. Police said a 59-year-old East Orange resident was putting air into his car's tires around 3:36 a.m. on April 22, when a man jumped into the driver's seat, in an attempt to steal the car. The owner confronted the suspect and a fight reportedly ensued, police said. A bystander saw the scuffle and shined a flashlight at the two men, police said. Once lit, the alleged burglar ran away to a white, two-door Nissan Z, with tinted windows that was parked on Ampere Parkway and occupied by a second suspect. Late model Range Rover found abandoned in Newark.
A man allegedly stole a late model sports-utility vehicle at gunpoint outside a Bloomfield shopping center and then abandoned the vehicle earlier this month, police report. Bloomfield police say on Monday, April 8 at 10:38 a.m. a 52-year-old Cedar Grove resident was carjacked at gunpoint in the shopping plaza at 135 Bloomfield Ave. The victim reported the suspect, a black male in his early 20s, approximately 5’9” tall and wearing a black hoodie, sweatpants and a red mask, opened the driver’s side door of her 2011 Range Rover and pointed a small silver handgun at her. A 19-year-old had his 2008 Nissan Maxima stolen on the 100 block of North 13th Street.
A Bloomfield teenager was carjacked at gunpoint last weekend, according to Bloomfield Police. Early Saturday morning, a 19-year-old was getting things from the inside of his 2008 Nissan Maxima at 3:50 a.m. on the 100 block of North 13th Street when five men drove up in two separate cars, according to reports. Three men exited one of the cars — reportedly a black Nissan Maxima — and approached the teen. The Bloomfield teenager told police one of the men pointed a black handgun at him and demanded he empty his pockets. The man with the handgun then reached into the Bloomfield teenager’s pocket, took his car keys, and drove away in the teenager’s car. A pizza delivery man was carjacked at gunpoint the night before Thanksgiving in the south end of Bloomfield, police said. The 2006 Honda Accord was taken last Wednesday on Ampere Parkway near Floyd Avenue at 11:15 p.m., said Sgt. Anthony Servedio, spokesperson of the Bloomfield Police Department. The 39-year-old delivery man, who was only identified as a New York resident, was removing delivery items from the backseat when he was approached from behind by a suspect pointing a gun, police said. After jumping into the Honda, the suspect fled in reverse and picked up another suspect waiting on the corner of Floyd Avenue. 60 year-old woman was carjacked Thursday morning while visiting the grave of a family member.
A 60 year-old woman was the victim of a carjacking at the Glendale Cemetery this morning, according to Lt. Joe Pulido, spokesperson for the Bloomfield Police Department. At 11:30 a.m. the victim was visiting a family member's gravesite when she noticed her car door was open. Upon further inspection, she noticed a man inside the vehicle. As she approached, the woman was confronted by the suspect, who demanded she hand over her keys, said Pulido. The woman complied and tossed him the keys. The suspect then proceeded to flee in the victim's vehicle, which is described as a beige colored 2008 Toyota four-door, and headed off in an unknown direction.
