The Bloomfield Shuttle Buses resumed their regular morning schedule Tuesday in order to accommodate commuters affected by the suspension of New Jersey Transit's Montclair-Boonton line. Both the north and south end shuttles will be picking up residents and taking them to the Bloomfield train station and the Grove Street Light Rail Station, upon request. NJ Transit has implemented a free shuttle bus service from the Bloomfield station to the ferry in Weehawken until train lines to New York City are restored. In the evening, the north and south end shuttles will be at the Bloomfield station only to return commuters back to their regular evening drop-off locations. N. 17th Street park features new playground, benches
Bloomfield's smallest park has undergone some big upgrades. Nestled on N. 17th Street, the newly improved Milbank Park features a "tot lot," with a swing set, climbing playground and slide, as well as nine new benches, six trash receptacles, fencing and two bag dispensers for dog waste. Wood chips in the play area have been replaced with more aesthetically pleasing and longer lasting rubber tiles, though the two materials are the same in safety rating, said Mike Sceurman, director of the Bloomfield Recreation Department. The half-acre park is also now monitored by security cameras. The nearly $80,000 in improvements were paid for by a federal community development block grant, said Sceurman. The Bloomfield Recreation Department would like to thank everyone who participated in and contributed to our annual Halloween celebration. The weather was fantastic and all of our families had an enjoyable time! Whether it was trick or treating, pumpkin picking, guess the weight of the pumpkin, costume contests or the entertaining magic show, there were smiles all around. I would be remiss if I didn’t give a special thank to the many volunteers of the Bloomfield Bicentennial Committee for their efforts on this year’s “Haunted Courtyard.” Their tireless efforts not only made this event one to remember but the entire year as one that residents will not soon forget! The Recreation Department would like to sincerely thank our sponsors of this…

Piloted Hoover Avenue stop removed from route
The Bloomfield Shuttle Bus has eliminated the Hoover Avenue stop from its original route, effective today, Oct. 9. The Hoover stop, added for a one-month trial period in lieu of New Jersey Transit's canceled No. 93 bus, had picked up just one rider during that time. The Bloomfield Recreation Center decided the permanent addition of the stop was not cost effective, and, with the rider able to use a different shuttle stop, decided to eliminate the Hoover Avenue stop. The Bloomfield Shuttle Bus operates from 5 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, transporting commuters to and from the Bloomfield train station. The bus operates on Montgomery/Rowe Street and Broad Street to transport more than 500 commuters a week, according to …
