The Bloomfield Farmers Market continues on Thursdays through October
The Bloomfield Public Library Movies have a Halloween theme all month. Monday’s film is “Dead and Buried." The sheriff of a small New England town discovers that strangers are being killed by mobs of townspeople. Things turn bizarre when the corpses come back to life. Jack Albertson steals the show as William G. Dobbs, the eccentric local undertaker who is happy for the extra business. Thursday’s flick is “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." This comic mystery stars Don Knotts as Luther Heggs, a small town reporter who, in order to get his big break, must spend the night in a mansion that is celebrating the 20th anniversary of a famous murder-suicide. Monday’s film is “The Omen.” Sinister events lead the U.S. Ambassador (Gregory Peck) to suspect that his son, Damien, is the Antichrist. This horror film won the Oscar for Best Original Score. Movie begins at 12:15 p.m. Thursday’s flick is “Psycho.” Many consider this one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best and most frightening films. Secretary Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals money from her employer to start a new life with her lover (John Gavin). When she tries to leave town, a heavy rainstorm forces Marion to stop at the Bates Motel. Her meeting with Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) has dreadful results. The Bloomfield community said its final goodbyes Friday to Christina Lembo, almost one week after the 16-year-old soccer player was killed in a tragic car accident just blocks from her home. The latest in the Memphis the pit bull saga has the Bloomfield council and Board of Health (BOH) once again pitted against each other. The council last week passed a resolution proposing the township's attorney draft some sort of settlement, Bloomfield Life reported, to end a months-long feud between the township, BOH and dog trainers Jeff and Diana Coltenback, who wish to adopt the dog. Got a Halloween costume? Need a Halloween costume? The Bloomfield Public Library is looking for donations of clean and gently used children's Halloween costumes for its costume swap Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For every costume donated, families will receive a swap ticket (with a limit of one ticket per child per family), good for a new-to-you costume. Costume donations, sans swap ticket, are also welcome and, from 1-2 p.m., a $3 suggested donation gets you a new costume. The event is part of National Costume Swap Day created to give costumes a second life. Any leftover costumes will be donated to Goodwill. For more information, call 973-566-6200, ext. 507.

The Bloomfield Public Library will have a free film at 12:15 p.m. on Monday. This week the featured movie is "The Birds." A wealthy socialite (Tippi Hedren) drives to a coastal town in California to visit handsome Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor). Catherine Wolverton says she knew she was destined to work at a library from a young age. With approximately 20 years of experience, she remains as passionate about her work since the moment she embarked on librarianship. This Essex County resident of over 10 years sits down with Patch and lets us know what it means to her.
