Bloomfield Police Report Video Game Consoles, Computers, Tablets Stolen

Burglars targeted personal electronic devices in four unrelated thefts.

Bloomfield police are investigating a series of recent unrelated robberies all involving personal computing devices and video game systems. Bloomfield police said someone reportedly kicked in the front door of a home on the 100 block of Franklin Street on Monday, Feb. 18 and stole a PlayStation 3 video game system. Three days later, police said someone climbed an apartment building's fire escape and entered an apartment through an unlocked window where they took an iPad and two laptop computers. The same day, police say, a home on the 200 block of Newark Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. The suspect reportedly entered through the front door and allegedly stole jewelry, a Nintendo DSI, a Nintendo 3DS and a PlayStation game…

Man Robbed at Gunpoint on Chester Avenue

Bloomfield man robbed of cash, wallet on Monday

Bloomfield police are looking for two men who robbed a 69-year-old man at gunpoint Monday. At around 12:40 a.m. that night, a dark-colored, four-door compact car pulled up behind the man, who was not identified by police, after he parked his own car on Chester Avenue, near Ampere Parkway. The two suspects exited the vehicle, one holding a light-colored handgun demanding the man give them his money and wallet. The suspects took the cash and wallet and fled in the car toward Grove Street. The suspects were both described as Hispanic men, 5'6 tall, wearing all dark clothing. One was of medium build with short dark hair, while the other was of thin build with a short, dark afro-style hairstyle.

Pizza Delivery Man Carjacked at Gunpoint in Bloomfield

Honda Accord taken the night before Thanksgiving on Ampere Parkway

A pizza delivery man was carjacked at gunpoint the night before Thanksgiving in the south end of Bloomfield, police said. The 2006 Honda Accord was taken last Wednesday on Ampere Parkway near Floyd Avenue at 11:15 p.m., said Sgt. Anthony Servedio, spokesperson of the Bloomfield Police Department. The 39-year-old delivery man, who was only identified as a New York resident, was removing delivery items from the backseat when he was approached from behind by a suspect pointing a gun, police said. After jumping into the Honda, the suspect fled in reverse and picked up another suspect waiting on the corner of Floyd Avenue. Woman Struck by Car Near Bloomfield High School

Bloomfield resident suffered non-life threatening injuries in early morning accident

A Bloomfield woman was hit by a car while crossing the street just before 7 a.m. Friday, police said. The woman, believed to be in her 30s, suffered a leg injury when she was hit by a car on Broad Street and Belleville Avenue, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, Bloomfield Police Department spokesperson. She was transported to Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car, also a Bloomfield resident, was summonsed for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Servedio said.

Im surprised there havent been more accidents at that corner, when students are going and coming from school, it is a traffic mess. Not that anyone should get hit by a car anywhere, but since that new stop at crosswalk for pedestrian law, which is a good law, it seems that some pedestrians think that everywhere is a crosswalk and they do cross without even looking, just noticed it more lately.   more ›

Traffic along Bloomfield Avenue backs up as stations receive rare fuel deliveries

For the past two days, traffic along Bloomfield Avenue – and elsewhere in town – has come to a grinding halt at the mere sight of a gas tanker, unleashing a mob of drivers and flurry of red gas cans. Lines of cars and people formed in all directions Friday at the Bloomfield Avenue 7-Eleven, almost immediately after a gas delivery was made at around 2:30 p.m. Several Bloomfield police officers were on scene for traffic and crowd control, as dozens of cars queued up the avenue, some drivers trying to sneak into the station from other directions. Meanwhile, a swarm of people with gas cans wrapped up Royalton Place to the gas station, as a gas tanker barrelled down Ampere Parkway, several cars trailing behind it. Bloomfield Police Involved in Three-Car Crash

Crash occurred Thursday afternoon at Ampere Parkway and Chester Avenue

It has since been updated with new information.] A Bloomfield police SUV was one of three cars involved in a crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Ampere Parkway and Chester Avenue. Witnesses said the impact caused the police SUV to flip over and then upright itself. The other two cars involved were a gold Toyota Camry and red Buick Lacrosse, which had its driverside airbag deployed. Bloomfield Police Officer John Morano, who was driving the SUV at the time, was en route to an emergency call at the Sunoco at 72 Bloomfield Ave. when he was struck by the Buick, according to Sgt. Police release descriptions of four men wanted in two separate incidents

Police are searching for four men wanted in connection to two robberies over the weekend in south Bloomfield. Last Saturday, at around 3 a.m., three men approached a woman on the 100 block of N. 17th Street as she walked to her home, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, Bloomfield Police Department spokesperson. The men, who had exited a white mini-van, were armed with black and silver handguns and demanded she give them her keys, cell phone and purse. After some resistance, the woman gave them her purse and phone but not her keys. The men fled the area in the mini-van, traveling west on First Avenue toward Ampere Parkway. Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Bloomfield Stabbing

Stabbing occurred last month outside a Bloomfield Avenue bar and on Park Avenue

A Newark man has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing another man with a knife last month in Bloomfield, police said. Charles Taylor, 24, is accused of attacking a 30-year-old Bloomfield man Sept. 13 and stabbing him in the neck and shoulder, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, Bloomfield Police Department spokesperson. The Bloomfield man's name was not released. After talking to the victim six days after the attack, police found in their investigation the man had been speaking to a woman outside of a Bloomfield Avenue bar that night when a car pulled up to give her a ride. Attempted Robbery Friday at Bloomfield Provident Bank

No proceeds taken, no arrests made in attempted robbery

Police are searching for a man who tried to rob a Provident Bank Friday on the south side of Bloomfield. The man entered the Provident Bank, at 100 Bloomfield Ave., just before 4:45 p.m. Friday and handed the teller a handwritten note requesting $3,000 to $4,000, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, Bloomfield Police Department spokesperson. The note also instructed the teller not to press the alarm and to return the note. The man did not appear to be armed and did not threaten to use a weapon during the robbery attempt, said Servedio. The teller, who was not identified by police, didn't return the note and also didn't turn over money to the man, who then calmly exited the bank. Bloomfield Man Accused of Groping, Harrassing Women

Incidents happened a block apart Wednesday night in Watsessing Avenue area

An 18-year-old Bloomfield man was arrested Wednesday night after he groped one woman and harassed another in the south end of town, police said. The man, later identified as Kierre Manning, first approached a 47-year-old woman at around 9 p.m. in the area of Grove Street and Watsessing Avenue after she got off the Grove Street light rail train, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, spokesperson for the Bloomfield Police Department. Manning, who was riding a BMX-style bike, had asked the unidentified woman for directions when he reached and grabbed her buttocks, Servedio said.
