The Bloomfield Board of Education convenes tonight, Tuesday Feb. 11, for a regularly scheduled meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. in the district's administration building, at 155 Broad St. On the agenda will be various presentations, including those for Essex County coaches of the year, the Whitehall demographic study, and the Foley Field Revitalization Committee. Students and faculty took seminars about human trafficking.
Bloomfield College students stopped by the United Nations in New York City to attend seminars about human trafficking. Recently, 29 senior nursing students, five faculty members and College Chaplain Rev. Sherry Karasik were given a private tour of the United Nations building and spent the afternoon with Carol Smolenski of ECPAT, a worldwide organization devoted to ending human trafficking in all areas of society. The nursing students learned about the different types of trafficking, the causes –such as poverty, kidnapping, and false promises of a better life – and how to recognize and report victims of trafficking. Monday The Bloomfield Township Council will convene for a conference meeting at 7 p.m. in room 205 of the Law Enforcement Building, at 1 Municipal Plaza. The administrator will offer a resolution for the establishment of a written agreement between the Bloomfield Fire Department and the Clifton Fire Department to provide mutual aid when required. The council will also discuss a new procedure for tenants and home buyers, barbershops and nail salon business hours, and the township's recycling contract, among other things. The U.S. Postal Service announced it will end Saturday mail delivery by Aug. 1. Speak out: How will this affect you?
Calling the six-days-per-week mail delivery business model “no longer sustainable,” the U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday it will eliminate Saturday delivery of mail during the week of Aug. 5. The plan to change delivery from six days a week to five would only affect the street delivery of first-class mail. Packages, mail-order medicines, priority and express mail would still be delivered on Saturdays, and local post offices will remain open for business Saturdays.
