Students and parents/guardians can visit with over 100 colleges and reps at BHS gymnasium on April 11
Bloomfield High School will be hosting its second annual evening College and Career Fair on Thursday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. Last year, 100 representatives from various colleges, universities, military branches, and career and vocational programs provided Bloomfield families with information on higher education at the inaugural event. This year, representatives will be available to discuss admission standards, curriculum and major areas of study, programs, and financial aid with attendees. Bloomfield parents and students are urged to attend this event in order to gain further information on post-secondary options.

BHS Students placed in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Bloomfield High School students join the ranks of writers Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, and Joyce Carol Oates in earning kudos in the 2012-2013 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Regional winners of the competition have been announced; those students who have earned a "Gold Key" will see their work advance in the competition. Vanessa Owusu won honorable mention twice, for poetry. Hampton Gaddy won honorable mention for both a script and for persuasive writing. Student submissions are judged by luminaries in the literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Notable past jurors include Langston Hughes, Robert Frost, Judy Blume, Paula Poundstone, Lesley Stahl, Billy Collins, and David Sedaris. Panelists look for works that best …

Chester and Rosaria Andraka, called a 'perfect couple,' found dead inside their Parsippany home.
A Bloomfield High grad committed suicide and his wife was murdered inside their Parsippany home, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. Chester Andraka, 46, committed suicide with a single gunshot wound and his wife, Rosaria Andraka, 43, was killed by "gunshot wounds inflicted upon her," according to a brief statement released Tuesday evening by Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp. The causes of the deaths were determined following an investigation and autopsies conducted by the Morris County Medical Examiner, Knapp said. No further information was released. Township holds annual tree-lighting ceremony with special visit from Santa
Bloomfield decked the halls Monday night at its tree-lighting ceremony, the annual event that draws hundreds to town hall for hot cocoa and caroling. Children got a special visit from Santa, who traveled in style from Bloomfield Avenue via horse and buggy, while the Bloomfield High School choir and Boys, Girls and Cub Scouts kept the mood festive with Christmas carols. The Bloomfield High School athletes of the month for November are Michael Carter and Jeovan Santos. Carter and Santos are both captains of the football team. This year, team has already reached eight wins – the most by a Bengal football team since 1989. They also recently led Bloomfield to its first ever football playoff victory. Carter is also a captain of the baseball team and has accepted a baseball scholarship to Rutgers University. Santos is a captain of the track team and an all-sec javelin thrower. He is considering Stony Brook University for football and track. Santos is ranked 40th in a class of 482 carrying a 3.74 GPA, Carter is ranked 48th and boasts a GPA of 3.73. Educators from Shenzhen city will scope four Bloomfield schools over three weeks
More than two dozen Chinese educators will get a glimpse of the American education system during their three-week visit to Bloomfield schools. The mix of principals and teachers from Shenzhen city, a province north of Hong Kong, will tour Bloomfield Middle and High School, as well as Demarest and Brookdale Elementary Schools to observe in-classroom teaching and partake in educational workshops. This is the second visit to Bloomfield for the Chinese delegation, which met with school administrators Monday over lunch. A different group was in town for 10 days in June. A Bloomfield man was killed early Sunday morning in Irvington after he lost control of his vehicle while driving north on the Garden State Parkway, according to NJ State Police Sgt. Brian Polite.
