Spectacular Fireworks TONIGHT at Foley Field!

The Recreation Department has something really special in store this year, to celebrate the 4th of July and Bloomfield's Bicentennial at the same time.

  Now that you have seen the rest, it is time for the best! The Township of Bloomfield and the Recreation Department, along with support from Bicentennial Committee and Investors Bank, are prepping for one of the biggest and best firework shows that Bloomfield has ever seen. Gates will open at the newly renovated Foley Field on Thursday, July 5th at 5:30PM. There will be a wide variety of food vendors that will sure to please everyone's appetite. An amusement company will be bringing three large blow-ups, one of which is a 65 foot long obstacle course! We will have stilt walkers and clowns walking around making balloon animals and performing magic tricks. We have games of chance with popular prizes along with Skyline Community Church …

PHOTOS: Bicentennial Space Shuttle Tree is "The Past and the Future" of Bloomfield (VIDEO)

The symbolic 200th birthday gift was planted in the Town Green on Friday

  A tiny tree, delicate, spiky and vibrantly green, stands in the middle of a white circular fence in the Town Green.  It is a very special tree. The three-year-old Eastern White Pine was grown from a seed that traveled aboard the 1997 Space Shuttle Columbia.  On Friday, April 27, the tree was officially planted in a township Bicentennial ceremony.  Said Bloomfield Mayor Raymond McCarthy, who spoke at the ceremony, the planting of the tree not only coincided with Arbor Day but also, coincidentally, with the landing of the Enterprise space shuttle in New York City on Friday. “I saw the shuttle over West New York this morning,” he said, beaming at the memory.  “The 747 flew down the middle of the Hudson River.  People were in awe.  People …

Bicentennial Tree to be Planted Friday from Space Shuttle Seedling

On Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m., a seed that traveled on the 1997 Space Shuttle Columbia will be planted in the Town Green as part of the township's Bicentennial celebration

  A seed that traveled aboard the 1997 space shuttle Columbia will one day be a tree in Bloomfield Township, in honor of the 2012 Bicentennial. On Friday, April 27, the Bicentennial Tree will be planted from an Eastern White Pine seedling, which was grown from seeds that traveled aboard the space shuttle Columbia on April 4, 1997.  It is hard to imagine a more unique living tribute to Bloomfield’s 200th birthday. The event will take place at 6 p.m. at the Town Green at Broad Street and Liberty Street, across from the Bloomfield Civic Center, 84 Broad Street.  It will be the latest commemorative event in the year-long Bicentennial celebration.   The Bloomfield Bicentennial Opening Ceremony on Friday night was a big success, drawing hundreds of people from the community to celebrate two hundred years of life in Bloomfield. The ceremony began in the Bloomfield High School auditorium, with Bicentennial Chairwoman/Mistress of Ceremonies Janice Litterio making the opening remarks. “To totally understand Bloomfield you must respect its heart and soul and its people,” she said to applause, before introducing guest speaker Rich Ruffalo. “What a pleasure, thrill and honor to speak tonight,” said author and educator Ruffalo.  “There’s a saying, ‘All roads lead to Rome.’  Well, as far as I’m concerned, all roads lead to Bloomfield.” Saying he had grown up “just a few javelin throws away …

  Bloomfield’s Party of the Century is about to begin! After months of planning and preparation, the Bloomfield Bicentennial’s Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 23, followed by a spectacular lineup of events that will continue throughout the summer to commemmorate the townshi's 200th birthday.  The events include a parade, concert series, discussions, historical tours and many more surprises.  So get ready for the fun to begin.
