Our Boys team finished in tenth place. Baseball surged to the .500 mark with three wins. League victories over Columbia and West Orange plus a 3-0 whitewash of Wayne Valley. Volleyball topped North 13th St. Tech. They face Barringer in Essex County Tournament play this week. Softball lost tough games to Essex County heavyweights Livingston and Nutley but showed they can mix it up with the best teams in the area. They defeated Verona under the lights. The following comes courtesy of Bloomfield High School's athletic department. -------- Bloomfield Wrestling earned three Championships at the District level. Kyle Christiansen repeated while Nick Saccaro and Adam Wooten captured their initial titles. Also advancing to the Regions were second place finishers Nate Garcia, Isaiah Thomas, Stanley Dameus and Chris Collado, and third place winners Justin Corio and Chris Collado. Girls Basketball wrapped up an undefeated league schedule thumping West Side.This is the girls first league title in over a decade. Boys Basketball overcame a tough Watchung Hills quintet in independent action. Serhiy Kralka competed at the Meet of Champions in the Shot Put throwing 48’. Cheerleading won their second …

Football captains earn top athletic honors

The Bloomfield High School athletes of the month for November are Michael Carter and Jeovan Santos. Carter and Santos are both captains of the football team. This year, team has already reached eight wins – the most by a Bengal football team since 1989. They also recently led Bloomfield to its first ever football playoff victory. Carter is also a captain of the baseball team and has accepted a baseball scholarship to Rutgers University. Santos is a captain of the track team and an all-sec javelin thrower. He is considering Stony Brook University for football and track. Santos is ranked 40th in a class of 482 carrying a 3.74 GPA, Carter is ranked 48th and boasts a GPA of 3.73. Santos anchors a Bengal defense that has shut out four opponents…

Bloomfield High School senior volleyball captain Jenna Orlando has been named Athlete of the Month for September. In the Bengals' first five matches, Orlando notched 59 kills and leads the team in kills this season. She has also recorded 53 digs and 12 aces and was the team leader and captain last season. Orland is also a star in the classroom, ranked No. 20 of 474 students with a weighted GPA of 4.83. She plans to continue her athletic career at Lafayette College as part of their softball program. Orlando and her teammates have also pitched in with a food drive for a local community food bank.
