Earth Day and Arbor Day at Berkeley School by Tabitha Rice, Berkeley School Media Specialist This week we’re celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day. Our Student Council, with the generous support of Home Depot, helped students in K-2 plant seeds this week. The students were allowed to pick a vegetable or flower to plant. The students also signed an Earth Day pledge. The student council members in 5th and 6th grade generously gave up their recess time to help the younger students plant their seedlings. (Student Council advisors are Mrs. Rogers and Ms. McCall.) The students are also holding a penny war to raise funds for the Defenders of Wildlife Foundation. As part of Read Across America Week, Bloomfield schoolchildren celebrated the whimsical author's birthday with imaginative projects
Bloomfield Schools celebrated Read Across America Week by honoring a special birthday guest: Dr. Seuss! Elementary school children were treated to a week's worth of Dr. Seuss style imagination, wonder and fun, with special guest readers, Funny Hat and Hair Days, pajama day, Tongue Twister Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday and more. At Berkeley school, the beloved author who opened the door to reading for so many children was honored with a Dr. Seuss Door Decorating Contest. "Some of the doors that the students and teachers have put together are absolutely fabulous," raved Berkeley School Librarian Tabitha Rice. "And on Wacky Wednesday, the students’ hair embodied the free-spirited and innovative thinking that is characteristic of Dr. Seuss’ …

The January 24 meeting at Fairview School included student and staff presentations and a large check from the Bloomfield Education Foundation
The highlights of Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting were three presentations by Bloomfield students and staff and a generous donation awarded to the district from the Bloomfield Educational Foundation. Totalling $16,900.00, the donation included $2,550 for five Teacher Grant Awards as well as a check for the amount of $14,400, allotted for the purchase of educational technology. Presenting the check was Joseph Kliminsky, Chairman Emeritus of the Bloomfield Educational Foundation, as well as Vice Chairman Madeline Wollner and Secretary John Sullivan.
