The goings on with Bengal sports in March
The following comes via the Bloomfield High School Athletic Dept. ----------- Boys Basketball thumped West Orange at home then went on the road and defeated #3 seed Montclair in a thriller before a packed house-then ventured to the silk city to best #2 seed and State #17 Paterson Eastside. Tonight the squad travels to Hackensack to face the #1 seeded Comets for the Sectional Championship at 7PM. Girls Basketball defeated Livingston in the first round of the State Tourney. The Girls then went to Paterson Kennedy and lost a tough one to the Knights. Wrestling competed at the Regions and although no Bengals advanced to Atlantic City all gave a good effort. The Bloomfield High School Boys varsity team took the lead early and held onto it tenaciously in a tournament game that ended with a 23 point margin of victory over West Orange on Monday night. While the West Orange squad were able to get within five points of Bloomfield after a rally near the end of the second period, Bloomfield ran away with the score in the second half, ending with a 67-44 win.
Bengals prevail in close game.
After overcoming a 17-22 deficit at the end of the first half, the Bloomfield girls varsity basketball team squeaked ahead of Livingston High School on Monday night to advance in the state tournament. The game was close throughout the second half, but the Bengals pulled through by keeping the defensive pressure on the Livingston Lancers. They pulled ahead and maintained a three-point margin in the fourth period, finally ending with a 41-39 score after a foul shot brought Livingston within two points.

Championship game has moved to Saturday, Feb. 23 at 12 p.m. at Orange High School.
Late in the fourth quarter, with Bloomfield clinging to a precarious 31-26 lead, Anna Perrotta, came off the bench a nailed the shot of the game. At a time when it seemed that Bloomfield couldn’t buy a bucket, Perrotta’s two pointer gave her team give some breathing room and took the steam out of a ferocious Glen Ridge come back. The Bengals went on to win 38-28 and will face Orange on Feb. 23 for the Suburban Essex Basketball League Championship. Nalya Hill finished with 10 points and Alivia Alston had 8 to lead Bloomfield in scoring.

The Bengals will face Glen Ridge on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bloomfield High School main gym. The winner will get into the finals.
With a 60-42 win over Belleville this week in Bloomfield, the Bloomfield 8th- grade girls basketball team closed out its regular season with a 12-2 league record, 16-3 overall, and won the “C” Division of the Essex County Suburban Basketball League. Next week they will be the #2 seed in the playoffs and will face Glen Ridge on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bloomfield High School main gym. A win for either team will lead to the finals. A pair of road victories last week against Belleville, 62-26, and West Orange, 47-28, coupled with a Tuesday night home win against Montclair, 45-33, enabled the Bengals to claim the #2 seed. The 8th-grade Bloomfield girls basketball team won the 2012 Jamie Bliss Holiday Tournament this weekend. The Bloomfield Eighth Grade Girls Suburban Essex Basketball beat out West Caldwell 29-17 in the tournament's championship game in Caldwell on Saturday. The Bloomfield girls defeated West Orange 43-31 and Belleville 45-20 last Thursday on their way to the championship. The final game was close throughout. Going into halftime, Bloomfield was up 8-6, led by Nayla Hill with 5 points. Bloomfield came out in the second half with a quick 6-0 run on Grace Cannon's floor leadership and key fast break lay-ups. Balanced attack propels Bengals past Mountaineers.
The Bloomfield Bengals (20-6) were in full control Tuesday night as they routed West Orange (10-17) 63-40 in the first round of the NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 State Tournament. The only time the Mountaineers were in striking distance of the Bengals was when the game was 4-2 and 7:02 was left in the first period of play. Bloomfield never looked back and went on an 8-0 run to increase the lead to 12-2. Balanced scoring and great 3-point shooting were Bloomfield’s keys to victory. Mark your calendars for Bloomfield Education Foundation fundraiser January 13.
Hoopsters are invited to play basketball and earn money for a good cause through the Ted Jasieniecki Alumni basketball game. Money raised from the 23rd annual alumni game will benefit the Bloomfield Education Foundation. The game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Bloomfield High School main gym, with a snow date set for Friday, Jan. 20. Ted Jasieniecki was an active member of the Bloomfield community and longtime member of the Lion’s Club. In November 1987, he died of cancer at the age of 37. Jasieniecki was one of the best basketball players in Bloomfield‘s history. Ted was one of the few players to join the elite 1,000-point club at Bloomfield High School.
