Board convenes in the school administration building.
The Bloomfield Board of Education announced on its site that it will hold a special meeting on Monday, May 13. The meeting comes a week after the board accepted the resignation of former Schools Superintendent Jason Bing and Director of Human Resources/Labor Relations and General Counsel Nicholas Dotoli announced that he will act as temporary Superintendent. The meeting announcement says the board will go into executive session immediately at 6:30 p.m. The meeting agenda is online here.

School board officials said that a late breaking deal brokered with health insurance carrier Cigna would allow the district to avoid the extreme budget measures it had been considering throughout March. The announcement didn’t bring relief for many parents and residents. The drawn-out process, several said, had been exhausting and heartbreaking. And knowing its resolution, it was something that the school board could and should have avoided altogether. “The last few weeks have been hell,” one parent said. “It should not have happened. The Bloomfield Board of Education convenes tonight, Tuesday Feb. 11, for a regularly scheduled meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. in the district's administration building, at 155 Broad St. On the agenda will be various presentations, including those for Essex County coaches of the year, the Whitehall demographic study, and the Foley Field Revitalization Committee. Mr. Verbist did his job; no bonus necessary. Did the buck stop anywhere? Did anyone in charge ever take responsibility for our crisis? Was anyone minding the store?
