Bloomfield man charged in alleged incident last week behind a Franklin Avenue bakery.
A Bloomfield man has been accused of an armed robbery of a Belleville bakery delivery driver last week, Belleville Police said. Belleville Police Detective John Giacobbe said Sean Crosbie, 20, robbed a delivery driver bringing a truck to the loading dock behind a Franklin Avenue bakery shortly before 2 a.m. last Thursday. Giacobbe said Crosbie showed a handgun and ran from the area after robbing the driver. Belleville’s K-9 unit tracked the man’s scent and police alerted neighboring departments of the search. A Bloomfield man was arrested for pretending to be a police officer, ordering woman to pull over.
A Bloomfield man has been charged with impersonating a police officer after a Tuesday, April 30 incident in which he ordered a motorist to pull over in Cedar Grove, police said. Rocco Castiello, 72, who allegedly pretended to be a police officer, told the driver to pull over on East Bradford Avenue on Saturday, April 20, Cedar Grove police said. A 24-year old woman told police a man in a green van, who was later identified as Castiello, said he was a police officer and ordered her to pull over, police said. The incident took place after the woman pulled over after the traffic light at the intersection of East Bradford Avenue and Ridge Road, officials said. Bloomfield resident arrested for illegal betting.
Newark police Sunday raided a pizzeria allegedly being used as a gambling parlor, the department said in a statement. Members of the special investigation unit executed a search warrant shortly before noon at Florina Pizzeria and Restaurant, 734-736 Mt. Prospect Ave., and found gambling paraphernalia as well as $30,000 in cash. Police had begun investigating the business after receiving information about gambling there. Police arrested Flor A. Martinez-Azcona, 41, of Union; Yenisse Rodriguez, 19, of Bloomfield; Lucianny Duran Rosario, 19, of Newark; and a 17-year-old Newark resident. Man reportedly became combative after police confronted him for smoking marijuana.
Bloomfield police said a Bloomfield man engaged in a scuffle with a police officer while being questioned for smoking marijuana. According to a Bloomfield police report, on Sunday, April 21, Bloomfield Officers Luca Piscitelli and Jonathan Donker responding to a report of people smoking marijuana found Gerard Steele in an alley off Franklin Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. Officers say Steel, 20, was in an alley with a “blunt” cigar on the ground and the odor of marijuana in the immediate area. One suspect a fugitive from Florida
Detectives from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office arrested three members of the Latin Kings street gang Wednesday, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said. One of the suspects is a fugitive from Florida apprehended with the help of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office there. Detectives searched a second-floor apartment at 502 N. 4th St. Wednesday and found more than a kilo of cocaine, 167 grams of marijuana and nearly $4,000 in cash. The occupants of the apartment, Jennifer Pisciotta, 27, her boyfriend Victor Lopez, 32, and Jose Colon were all arrested. Pisciotta was also wanted for a probation violation. A man allegedly stole a late model sports-utility vehicle at gunpoint outside a Bloomfield shopping center and then abandoned the vehicle earlier this month, police report. Bloomfield police say on Monday, April 8 at 10:38 a.m. a 52-year-old Cedar Grove resident was carjacked at gunpoint in the shopping plaza at 135 Bloomfield Ave. The victim reported the suspect, a black male in his early 20s, approximately 5’9” tall and wearing a black hoodie, sweatpants and a red mask, opened the driver’s side door of her 2011 Range Rover and pointed a small silver handgun at her. Man allegedly hid in house's crawl space after police responded to a verbal altercation near Broad and Liberty streets.
Police say a man barricaded himself into the crawl space of a Monroe Place home during a stand-off with police, during which he threatened officers with a dog. At approximately 2:12 a.m. on April 1, several Bloomfield officers responded to a public disturbance call in the area of Broad Street and Liberty Street, according to reports. Police say Newark man tried repeatedly to threaten persistent victim.
Bloomfield police nabbed a Newark man was after he allegedly stole a Bloomfield resident's cell phone on Watsessing Avenue Sunday. Police said Donovan White, 19, asked to borrow a 25-year-old Bloomfield resident's phone and then walked away with it. But the victim was persistent, police said, and continued to follow White, despite repeated threats. Officer Ruiz faces 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison for theft.
A 12-year veteran of the Essex County Sheriff’s Office was convicted of official misconduct today by an Essex County jury. According to an announcement by Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray, George Ruiz, 46, of Belleville was convicted of official misconduct for stealing $70 in cash from a crime scene. On March 3, 2011, Ruiz, a K-9 officer, was dispatched to the scene of an Irvington drug bust. Unbeknown to him officers from the Internal Affairs Unit of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office had already entered the apartment and taken an inventory of the cash and contraband, according to Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Shaughnessy, who tried the case. Bloomfield police say men had shattered a car window and tampered with ignition before police caught them.
Bloomfield police officers interrupted two East Orange men in the middle of an attempted car theft, police said. Officers responded to a report of two suspicious men sitting in a car near Berkeley Avenue and Fairview Place at 9:45 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, according to a report. The two men inside the car, Darrell Diggs, 29, and Davonte Mitchell, 20, reportedly fled the car when Bloomfield Officers Robert Kish and Godson Noel flashed the lights on their squad car.
