New Firefighters Possible, Input Sought for New Schools Chief This Week

Here's a look at what's ahead in Bloomfield.

At their conference meeting on Monday, the Bloomfield Town Council will discuss hiring firefighters to replace members of the department who have retired. The initial proposal calls for the hiring of four new firefighters.

In addition, the council will discuss plans for development in Bloomfield center. The agenda includes two discussions on lot 243, which involves property at the intersection of Bloomfield Ave., Liberty Ave. and Broad Street.

Plans for the area have been underway since 2009, when the Planning Board designated it as “an area in need of redevelopment.” Officials will be looking at the financial agreement and redevelopment agreement for the project.

On Tuesday, the School Board meeting at the Bloomfield High School auditorium.

In addition, on Wednesday, the Bloomfield Board of Education holds a community forum soliciting the public’s input on choosing the next Superintendent of Schools. This Community Forum will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room on the second floor of the Board of Education building at 155 Broad St. Seton Hall Professor Barbara Strobert will moderate. School officials said that parts of the conversation may be used for interviews with superintendent candidates.
