Environmental Center Proposals, Special Education Presentation in the Week Ahead

A look ahead at noteworthy stories and events in Bloomfield.

The Bloomfield Township Council is slated to discuss the proposed “Butterfly Discovery” park on the a six-acre tract of land on Lion Gate Drive that Bloomfield purchased from Copeck/Ruvio/DeSimone in 2012 for  $2.2 million.

As discussed last year, plans for the wetland area call for a botanical garden with plants that would attract butterflies and hummingbirds as well as pathways and other educational features. The butterfly park was one of three possible plans for the property discussed last year. At that time, the plan called for a $1 million plus price-tag.

At the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Bloomfield BOE Director of Special Services, Linda Colucci will discuss changes occurring in special education in Bloomfield schools.  A parent told Patch that the presentation was made to the Bloomfield's Special Education Parent Advisory Council at a reportedly contentious meeting earlier this month.
