Blood Drive - VFW Dist 4, Nutley

YES it is safe to donate blood!   Generally, people in good health are eligible to donate. Blood donors must be 16 years of age or older. There are no upper age limits. You should eat meals at regular times.     You only need to supply your SS No. on your initial donation with us.   After that, your unique donor ID number can be used in it's place.  If you don't know your donor ID number our staff will gladly look it up at the blood drive.       You will be deferred from giving blood if:   You have had routine teeth cleaning or fillings within 24 hours.  You have had other dental work within 72 hours.  You have a sore throat or fever.  You have traveled to an area considered endemic to Malaria within 12 months.  You weigh less than 120 pounds.

There is NO risk of contracting any disease through donating blood. Each donor receives his own sterile blood bag and needle, which is used once, and then safely destroyed.
