Animal Shelter Fundraiser Highlights Generosity of the Season

John A. Bukowski Animal Shelter Tricky Tray helps fund animal's medical needs.

December started off warm and fuzzy for the Bloomfield John A. Bukowski Animal Shelter as they hosted their Second Annual Tricky Tray/Fundraiser.

The December 1st event was held at The Chandelier in Belleville and was considered a “resounding success” by the shelter’s Fundraising Committee.  Two-hundred twenty five guests were treated to dinner, dessert and coffee after bidding on prizes that ranged from a gaming systems, mountain bikes and a flat-screen TV to tickets for the Christmas Eve Jets vs. Giants game.

The funds raised from these events benefit the shelter’s animal medical fund as well as Bloomfield’s Trap, Neuter & Return Program (TNR).  “The TNR program is run by two dedicated shelter volunteers, Jane Chaplinski and Amanda Mentis.  They do a great job in trapping homeless cats and getting them the necessary shots and  medical care they need, as well as neutering them, before they are put up for adoption,” said Nancy Monaco D’Auria, Co-Chair of the Fundraising Committee and Shelter Volunteer.

D’Auria was unable to say how much the event raised, but expressed her overall gratitude for the community banding together to help out.  “It’s a blessing to the animals to see that people have such soft spots in their hearts for homeless and sick or injured animals.  The monies do go out quickly, as we have two cats going to an animal eye specialist this week for surgery.”

The shelter also has a wish list set up on Amazon.com where people can log on and type in Bloomfield Animal Shelter to see what the organization needs.  Animal lovers can donate food, toys or supplies and they’re shipped directly to the shelter.  “Any orders over $25 are shipped free,” said D’Auria, who says they’ve received cases of cat and dog food, and pet treats.

Monetary donations can always be sent for the animals medical care at: NTNN Animal Support Fund, 1360 Clifton Ave, #321, Clifton, NJ 07012.  Please make checks payable to NTNN Animal Support Fund.
