All you will need is a blanket or some lawn chairs, and perhaps a picnic basket, for fun outdoor evenings this summer when Essex County offers a series of free concerts in the county parks. Some of the most exciting shows will happen in the coming weeks.
“Our Free Concert Series offers a diverse lineup of performers who will take center stage in venues throughout our historic Essex County Park System. Pack a blanket, enjoy the cool evening breeze and dance to the sounds of classical, rock and roll, jazz, big band, Latin and more. We have a spectacular line-up that is sure to entertain and impress,” Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. said.
2012 Essex County Free SummerMusic Concert Series continues this week with Denise Hamilton performing at at Monte Irvin Orange Park in Orange on Wednesday, July 11th. The show will begin at 7 p.m.
On Friday, July 13th at 7:30 p.m. in Bloomfield will present A Tribute to Journey and the Four Tops, featuring Separate Ways and Standing in the Shadows.
Tuesday, July 17th at 7 p.m. brings Orquesta Son 9, featuring the vocals of Gilberto Velez, to Essex County Riverbank Park located at Market Street and Somme Street in Newark.
The very next night, Wednesday, July 18th, Cross Culture Club will perform at Essex County West Side Park, located on South 17th Street in Newark. The band creates a signature sound that fuses hard, melodic rock with jazz, gospel and funk.
Jazz Under the Stars featuring the Muzzy Mercado Group and Ken Navarro happens at on Watchung Avenue in Bloomfield on July 20th at 7:30 p.m. Alto/tenor saxophonist Muzzy Mercado performs cool Jazz, Latin and Rhythm and Blues, while the second act features jazz guitarist Ken Navarro.
Tuesday, July 24th will bring a Broadway Extravaganda to in Verona at 7 p.m.
Friday, July 27th brings a Springsteen Tribute: The B Street Band and the Infernos to in Bloomfield.
The Dalton Gang will perform at at Yanticaw Park in Nutley on Wednesday, July 25th at 7 p.m.
Carrie Jackson will be featured on July 31st at 7 p.m. at , in Bloomfield/East Orange.
August brings even more concerts, including The 70's Project at Grover Cleveland Park in Caldwell on August 1st at 7 p.m.; The Hitmen at in Bloomfield on August 3rd at 7:30 p.m.; Gradie Stone at Ivy Hill Park in Newark on August 7th at 7 p.m.; Lonnie Youngblood at Weequahic Park, Newark on August 8th at 7 p.m.; and The Garden State Concert Band at , West Orange on August 10th at 7 p.m.
According to the Essex County website, the SummerMusic Concert Series is being sponsored by Filippo Berio Olive Oil, Rose Squared Productions, TD Bank and the Branch Brook Park Alliance. The series is also made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
