Foley Field Phase Two is About to Begin!

The Foley Field Revitalization Committee assured the Bloomfield Board of Education on Tueday night, "It's going to get done in the right way."

A special mid-summer Board of Education meeting was a chance for the Foley Field Revitalization Committee to outline plans for the next phase of the sports complex renovation.

On Tuesday night, Committee members Alan LaQuaglia, Mike Napolitano and Tony Todaro said $900,000 was allocated for two tickets booths, a press box, a concession stand, bathrooms and a second story addition on the building.

“It will be a multipurpose building for team use and band use,” said Todaro, who admitted the costs would probably run over $900,000 but noted, “Green Acres Fund and fundraising will pay for it. There continues to be an appetite in the community to donate and fund this revitalization of Foley Field.”

“I assure you that it's going to get done in the right way,” Todaro told the board. “The bleachers will be ready – hopefully -- for opening day.  But don't hold me to that!  It will definitely be done by Thanksgiving.”

The Committee also noted, “The Tripuka family has offered to sponsor the press box and sound system for $25,000.  It will be paid in two installments: one at the end of this quarter and one at the beginning of 2013.”

When Napolitano mentioned that the family had requested that the Tripuka name appear on the finished structure, BOE President Mary Shaughnessy said she wanted to see a rendering of the proposed building first.  BOE Attorney Nicholas Dotoli weighed in as well, saying the design would have to be approved by board members, who would ultimately sign off on naming rights.

The Foley Field revitalization's was an that completely rebuilt Bloomfield High School's athletic field.  Following the Opening Day last September, the field was in constant use for , track-and-field meets, charitable events, community gatherings and the in June.
