Big Wins For Baseball, Tennis, Softball and Volleyball in BHS Athletic Update

The following update comes courtesy of the Bloomfield High School Athletic Department.

• Softball continued their winning ways with League wins over Columbia and Newark Academy.
• Tennis also won two League matches besting Golda Och and Newark East Side.
• The Golf team is still seeking their first win but their scores have improved in each Match thus far.
• Volleyball overwhelmed East Side before running into a rugged Livingston squad.
• Baseball crushed neighborhood rival Nutley under the lights at Bloomfield Middle School.

Track and Field performed well at the Ranger Relays at Walkill Valley HS. Both Boys and Girls teams finished in fourth place overall. Serhiy Kralka and Assad Younas teamed up to win the Shot Put with a meet record distance of over 102’. Jeovan Santos and Mike Galli won the Javelin competition. The team had numerous other place winners most impressively the Boys 4X800 meter team which bested the Meet Record in finishing second to Morris Hills which also shattered the meet record and qualified for the Penn Relays.

The Bloomfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame will conduct their induction ceremony as part of the Bloomfield Educational Foundation annual Gala on April 20, 2013 at the Essex Manor. This year’s class welcomes the following former Bloomfield Athletic Greats:

• Art Cuffari ‘87
• Kristen Gengaro ‘96
• Brian Lindner ’92
• Eddie McCarroll (posthumously) ’81  
• Denise Sarno ’87 
• Patricia Gibson Carter ‘49 will be inducted for her numerous contributions to the athletic program.

Did You Know- Joe Chiaravallo was closest to joining Arthur Cuffari as a State Wrestling Champion-losing his only match of the year in the State Final.
