BHS Sports Update

Honors and early triumphs for Bloomfield athletics.

Winter sports accolades continue to be released-

  • All-Super Essex Conference Independence Division Girls Basketball;1st  Team Maya Harris and Alexis Bell. Honorable Mention-Brianna LaFiura.
  • All-Super Essex Conference American Division Boys Basketball;
  • 1st Team Jameel Patterson. 2nd Team-Isaiah Dockett and Jaleel Jimenez. Honorable Mention-Jordan Arthur.

Softball opened the season with back to back shut out wins. Debbie Mazzeo was masterful on the mound tossing a one hitter vs Belleville and a No-Hitter against Verona.

Boys Volleyball had a busy week with a 4-1 record and a Victory in the Silver Bracket of the Bengal Invitational Tournament. Their exploits have not gone unnoticed as the Star-Ledger has the squad ranked #16 in the State top twenty.

Baseball stands at 2-2 with wins over Montclair and Morris Knolls. James Torres shut out Montclair on three hits.

The Track team split with Montclair-Boys winning and Girls losing. At the Kearny Relays the Boys team finished in fourth place overall paced by wins in the Javelin-Jeovan Santos and Mike Galli and Shot Put-Serhiy Kralka and Assad Younas. Other medalists included pole vault-3rd; 400 meter hurdles, Long Jump, 4X110 Hurdles, High Jump-all 4th place and 4X100-6th place. The Girls were highlighted by a win in the Javelin-Jess Zurlo and Haley Reynolds and placings in the Sprint Medley-3rd ; 4X100 and Distance Medley-5th.

Boys Tennis rolled over Orange 5-0.

Golf dropped their season opener to a tough Glen Ridge team.

The Bloomfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame will conduct their induction ceremony as part of the Bloomfield Educational Foundation annual Gala on April 20, 2013 at the Essex Manor. This year’s class welcomes former Bloomfield Athletic Greats-

  • Art Cuffari ‘87
  • Kristen Gengaro ‘96
  • Brian Lindner ’92
  • Eddie McCarroll (posthumously) ’81 
  • Denise Sarno ’87
  • Patricia Gibson Carter ‘49 will be inducted for her numerous contributions to the athletic program.
