Bloomfield High Athletics Receive Sportsmanship Award

Sports highlights include early-season victories for boys and girls basketball teams.

The following update is courtesy the Bloomfield High School Athletic Department.

Bloomfield High School was recently presented the NJSIAA Sportsmanship Award for the 2012-2013 school year.

Justin Corio and Stanley Dameus both finished in second place at the 50th Annual Bengal Holiday Wrestling Tournament. Chris Palmieri earned a Third Place medal. The Boys opened their Dual Meet season with a tough loss to Passaic County Tech.

Boys Basketball stands at 2-1 with victories over Nutley and Raritan. The team lost a hard fought decision to Bloomfield Tech in the Bengal Holiday Tourney Final. The Junior Varsity team defeated Clifton in overtime to win the Bengal Holiday JV Tournament.

Girls Basketball is 3-1. Coach Dana Morton earned her first career win topping Glen Ridge opening night. The team split at the Fairlawn Tournament, losing to North Bergen and besting Bergen Tech. After trailing 9-0 early the team swarmed back to best Verona in league play.

The indoor track team competed at the Super Essex Conference American Division Championship. Medalist for the Bengals included Anthony Ardino-3rd in 800 meter run, Ethan Felix 4th in the 800, Andy Afful 3rd in the 55 Meter Hurdles, and the Boys 4x400 Relay(Dontel Green, Ethan Felix, Greyson Frazier, Andy Afful) third place.

At the Essex County Relay Championships the Boys Sprint Medley Team placed fifth. The quartet was Greyson Frazier, Dontel Green, Ethan Felix and Anthony Ardino.

Girls Bowling is unbeaten with wins over Nutley and Belleville, Boys Bowling 4-2 in the early going.

Adeline Agrabrite was honored by the New Jersey Girls Soccer Association as a top 200 player in the State.
