Shane Berger Selected School Board President

Former vice president replaces Emily Smith after 5-4 vote.

The Bloomfield School Board appointed veteran Board member Shane Berger president for 2014 at its Tuesday night reorganization meeting.

Berger was elected in a 5-4 vote, beating out sitting Board President Emily Smith.

Berger, who previously served as vice president, told Patch he felt very honored and extremely privileged with the victory.

“We’re going to build on the good stuff,” Berger told Patch. “We’re going to move in a deliberate fashion. I’m going to support the superintendent.”

With the election, Berger becomes the third president for the board in three years; Smith only served for about half a year after Board President Mary Shaughnessy stepped down from the role in June.  Shaughnessy left the board altogether in September.
