District Hires Interim Business Administrator

James Verbist will begin his tenure next week.

The Bloomfield school district will have a new business administrator starting next week.

The Bloomfield Board of Education voted this week to approve the appointment of James Verbist, of Paramus, as interim business administrator. Verbist will begin his term on Monday.

Verbist will take over for Michael Derderia, who served about 11 years in the district.

The interim position will bring with it a daily rate of $625.

Superintendent Jason Bing was unable to be reached for comment.

During the January 22nd BOE meeting the auditor gave his assessment of the recent state audit. Much of the discussion revolved around the actions of the former business administrator Derderian. While nothing nefarious, it seems in some cases he did not follow standard accounting practices. I don't know for sure, but I imagine that is the reason we now have a new BA. The auditor's report was sobering to say the least, and I hope the Patch covers the meeting in detail.
