Bloomfield Student Wins Title Contest for High School Book

The book is a history of Bloomfield High School's 100 years in existence.

A Bloomfield High School senior won a contest to come up with a title for a commemorative book detailing the school's 100-year history.

Veronica Burnett, who won the contest, came up with the title, "There’s A High School In New Jersey," and was awarded a free ticket to the senior prom in June, the press release from the school said.

The book, spanning 112 pages, was started as a fundraising tool by the Bloomfield Educational Foundation or BEF. Current students like Burnett helped in the research of the book.

Bloomfield students, past and present, celebrated the school's centennial anniversary at an April 16 gala, which raised over $30,000 for educational initiatives.

One of those programs is the high school's PSAT initiative, which gives students the opportunity to take the test for free, according to the press release.

“It is important for our students to know that higher education is possible for everyone.  By teaming up with the BEF and allowing each junior in Bloomfield High school to take the PSAT free of charge, it opens up new opportunities for our students,” said Chris Jennings, the high school principal.

The book is available in the main office of the high school or through the BEF's website. The book is $10 and checks can be made payable to the Bloomfield Educational Foundation.
