Bloomfield School Board Selects New Principal

John Baltz, a Bloomfield Middle School assistant principal, is the new principal at Carteret Elementary School

Carteret Elementary School has a new leader - and it is a familiar figure.
John Baltz, an assistant principal at Bloomfield Middle School, was appointed to be the principal at the school on Tuesday night by the school board. The school district received 75 resumés for the position and Baltz was chose from six finalists, Superintendent Jason Bing said.
Baltz, who grew up in the township, has served as an assistant principal at the middle school for seven years. Baltz also works as the supervisor of special needs programs for the Bloomfield Recreation Department.
The Fairfield resident said he previously worked as an elementary school teacher in Plainfield for 11 years, where he also coached football, basketball and softball.
Baltz, 48, said he's excited about working in the elementary school.
"I hope to continue to move Carteret forward and increase student success academically, socially and emotionally, develop a strong, positive relationship with the parents in the community, " Baltz said. "From what I hear, there is a great staff (at the elementary school)."
Baltz will replace former principal Gina M. Rosamilia, who was transferred from Carteret to Watsessing Elementary  School in May as part of a restructuring plan intended to improve student test scores.
Baltz said he plans to hold an informal community meet and greet at the elementary school at the end of August.
He also said he plans to have an "open door policy" at the school and he wants to be "available at all times to answer questions and concerns."
Bing and school board Vice President Shane Berger said Baltz went through a vigorous selection process. Berger said he considered him the best candidate.
Bing said they are extremely happy to have Baltz at the elementary school. The district will be looking for a new assistant principal for the middle school.
Bing said Baltz's new salary is still being negotiated with the union.
