by Brendan Hughes

This past weekend the BHS Marching Band performed at the New Jersey Music Education Association's (NJMEA's) State Marching Band Festival at Wayne Hills High School. The festival rates bands from across the state on their musical and visual performance either as Bronze, Silver, or Gold. For the third year in a row the Bengal Band received a rating of Gold, ranking them among the top programs in the state. A gold rating is reserved for bands whose "performance is consistently excellent, displays a mastery of all skills, and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of what is being performed".

In addition to the rating, the trumpet section was recognized for their outstanding musical contribution, and the rifle duet was recognized for its outstanding visual contribution.

The marching band staff is led by band director Brendan Hughes, assistant band director Robert Tiedemann, color guard instructor Kelly Kot, and percussion instructors George Agens and Kristin Leone. Student leaders are Drum Majors Candice McCloud and Chetna Hirpara, and Color Guard Captains Kimberly Ho and Linzee Duncan.
