Author Laurie Keller Visits Demarest

The elementary school continues its visiting author series.

Earlier this week, Demarest students were treated to yet another visiting author.  Laurie Keller, writer and illustrator from Michigan, came to Demarest School on Monday, December 5th and did a presentation for kindergarten through third grade.

Ms. Keller, whose books include The Scrambled States of America, Arnie the Donut, Do Unto Otters and Birdy's Smile Book, offered up a Power Point presentation about where she works to create her books, where she lives, how she gets her ideas and how books are made.  She also had each student learn to draw her characters.  “The children loved that part!” said Rosemary Vetrano, Demarest Media Specialist.

The author was also on hand to autograph any books that the students purchased.  And, of course, for some photo ops.

“We are continually grateful to the Demarest Home and School Association and to Mrs. Collins, our Home and School programming coordinator, for bringing these authors to our school,” said Vitrano.
