U.S. Senator Robert Menendez visited Michael Venezia's Grove Street headquarters Thursday for a rare foray into local politics.
Menendez vocalized his support for Essex County Democrats appearing on the ballot in November, including Michael Venezia and his slate of candidates in Bloomfield and Assemblyman Ralph Caputo, who was at the rally.
"I don't come out for municipal elections, but I have an investment in Bloomfield," the senator said to the dozens of supporters gathered in the storefront campaign headquarters. "Two years ago I came here with 12 million federal dollars to have the downtown redeveloped and I need partners on the city council and the mayor who will work for economic opportunity and to change the course of events in Bloomfield."
In addition to local races, Menendez endorsed Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono.
"I want someone as governor who's not just thinking about the next election," Menendez said.
